Ray Price

Ray Price - Prisoner of Love 2000

Image hosted by servimg.com

Ray Price (born January 12, 1926) is an American country music singer, songwriter and guitarist. His wide-ranging baritone has often been praised as among the best male voices of country music. His more well-known recordings include "Release Me", "Crazy Arms", "Heartaches by the Number", "City Lights", "My Shoes Keep Walking Back to You", "For the Good Times", "Night Life", "I Won't Mention It Again", "You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me", and "Danny Boy". Ray Price - American Originals 1989

Image hosted by servimg.com

The brief, 10-track collection American Originals contains several of Ray Price's biggest hits -- including "Crazy Arms," "Under Your Spell Again," "Faded Love," "For the Good Times" and "Funny How Time Slips Away" -- dividing the album between his '50s honky tonk hits and his '60s countrypolitain singles. American Originals misses many of Price's most famous songs, such as "My Shoes Keep Walking Back to You" and "City Lights," usually at the expense of covers of songs made famous by other vocalists ("Crazy"). And that means, American Originals isn't an ideal collection and only of use to budget-minded, casual fans, and those who want a handful of his latter-day singles; The Essential Ray Price: 1951-1962 is a preferable compilation.

TraAklist:
1. Under Your Spell Again
2. San Antonio Rose
3. Faded Love
4. Crazy Arms
5. Talk to Your Heart
6. Crazy
7. Night Life
8. For the Good Times

Ray Price - 16 Biggest Hits 1999

Image hosted by servimg.com

16 Biggest Hits may be missing some noteworthy songs, but it does provide an excellent summary of Ray Price's Columbia recordings between 1956 and 1973. Since it does contain the majority of his best-known songs -- "Crazy Arms," "I've Got a New Heartache," "City Lights," "Heartaches by the Number," "The Same Old Me," "Make the World Go Away," "For the Good Times," "You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me," "She's Got to Be a Saint" -- at a mid-line price, it's an excellent introductory collection.

3. My Shoes Keep Walking Back to You
4. City Lights
5. Heartaches by the Number

The American Cowboy - Early Recordings 1987

Image hosted by servimg.com

Here is a mysterious but wonderful little tape I found at a thrift shop. It's a collection of ten early recordings of cowboy songs by performers both legendary and obscure. Dated 1987, it was a product of something called "Demand Performance Cassettes" out of Glendale, California. A web search brings up very little about this outfit, but it seems they had a fantastic catalog. No info here other than the artists and titles, but these largely speak for themselves. Enjoy!

Earl Thomas Conley - Greatest Hits 1985

Image hosted by servimg.com

Earl Thomas Conley (born October 17, 1941, in Portsmouth, Ohio )is an American country music singer-songwriter. Between 1980 and 2003, he recorded ten studio albums, including seven for the RCA Records label. In the 1980s and into the 1990s, Conley also charted more than thirty singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, of which eighteen reached Number One. Conley's eighteen Billboard Number One country singles during the 1980s marked the most Number One hits by any artist in any genre during that decade.

Throughout his career, Conley's music has been referred to as "thinking man's country." This is because the narrator looks into the heart and soul of his characters in each song

The New Lost City Ramblers - American Moonshine And Prohibition Songs (1962)

Image hosted by servimg.com

The New Lost City Ramblers is a contemporary old-time string band that formed in New York City in 1958 during the Folk Revival. The founding members of the Ramblers, or NLCR, are Mike Seeger, John Cohen, and Tom Paley. Tom Paley later left the group and was replaced by Tracy Schwarz.

The New Lost City Ramblers not only directly participated in the old-time music revival, but has continued to directly influence countless musicians who have followed. Indeed, except for The Kingston Trio, the New Lost City Ramblers may well be the longest-running popular music group still performing, albeit irregularly.

At one time, in a sense, a cult group. They played traditional American music, not leaving any modern country, no bluegrass, or somewhere else. In the 60s they sounded just like their predecessors in the 20s. Little is republished

Mike McClure - Did7 2008

Image hosted by servimg.com

Mike McClure (born July 6, 1971) is a singer/songwriter/producer from Tecumseh, Oklahoma.[1] He is currently the frontman for the Mike McClure Band. McClure is a founding member of The Great Divide, and was a member until he and the band parted ways in 2002. The Mike McClure Band consists of McClure (guitar, vocals), Tom Skinner (bass), and Eric Hansen (drums).[2]

McClure got his start in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and would hang out and play music at the notorious "Farm" with other Red Dirt artists such as Bob Childers, Jimmy LaFave, and Scott Evans. After forming The Great Divide with J.J. Lester, Scotte Lester, and Kelley Green in 1992 and contributing to six studio albums and one live two-part album, McClure set out to do his own thing.[3]

In 2002, while still a member of The Great Divide, he released Twelve Pieces, his first solo album. After recruiting Skinner and Hansen, McClure had his band together. In 2004, The Mike McClure Band released their first album Everything Upside Down, a hard-hitting rock album. McClure often uses the quote that his new band is "twice as loud, and half as popular." [4] Since the first album, the band has put out seven more albums, including the 2004 collaboration with the Burtschi Brothers of Norman, Oklahoma.

As a songwriter and producer, McClure has collaborated with many other Red Dirt artists. He has become the permanent producer for Cross Canadian Ragweed. Usually contributing also as a songwriter, he has produced five of their seven studio albums, jokingly earning him the title of "prodouchebag."[5] McClure has also produced albums by other artists around the scene such as Stoney LaRue, Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Scott Copeland, Johnny Cooper, Whiskey Myers, and the Turnpike Troubadours.

Ed Bruce – The Best Of Ed Bruce (1995)

Image hosted by servimg.com

Today Ed Bruce is better known as the author of "Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" and as James Garner’s sidekick in Bret Maverick than as an artist himself. There’s a reason for that–he was a mediocre singer. His baritone suffered from a cramped range, a thin tone, and a mumbled delivery. That didn’t stop him from having half a dozen Top-10 country hits, however, for he was a skillful songwriter with a knack for coming across as a gruff, grizzled cowboy even as he was being unabashedly sentimental. Between 1980 and ’86, Bruce scored 16 Top-25 country singles for MCA and RCA, and all of them can be found on The Best of Ed Bruce, a single-CD anthology filled out by "Theme from Bret Maverick" and Bruce’s original ’75 version of "Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys." As a summary of his career, The Best of Ed Bruce has several limitations. It includes none of his early rockabilly and hard-country singles for Sun, RCA, Wand, Monument, and Epic. It also omits his own versions of the big hits he wrote for other singers: "See the Big Man Cry" (Charlie Louvin), "Restless" (Crystal Gayle), and "The Man That Turned My Mama On" (Tanya Tucker). Moreover, the brief liner notes make no mention of the musicians who played on his hits or of his ex-wife Patsy Bruce who co-wrote many of them.

Image hosted by servimg.com

McBride & the Ride was an American country music band initially composed of Terry McBride (lead vocals, bass guitar), Ray Herndon (background vocals, guitar, Dobro) and Billy Thomas (background vocals, drums, percussion). The group was founded in 1989 through the assistance of record producer Tony Brown. McBride & the Ride's first three albums — Burnin' Up the Road, the gold-certified Sacred Ground, and Hurry Sundown, released in 1991, 1992, and 1993, respectively — were all issued on MCA Records. These albums also produced several hits on the Billboard country charts, including the Top 5 hits "Sacred Ground" (their highest-peaking, at #2), "Going Out of My Mind", "Just One Night" and "Love on the Loose, Heart on the Run".

Pat Green & Cory Morrow - Songs We Wish We`d Written (2001)

Image hosted by servimg.com

Songs We Wish We'd Written is a collaboration album of released by album released in 2000 by American country music artists Pat Green and Cory Morrow. [1] The album includes cover versions of songs recorded by other artists, including Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and others.

As dancehall troubadours popular on the Texas collegiate circuit, Pat Green and Cory Morrow have followed the boot heels of Jerry Jeff Walker and Robert Earl Keen. This aptly titled collaboration extends that circle of influence, paying tribute to songwriters from Waylon Jennings ("Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?") and Billy Joe Shaver ("Live Forever") to Townes Van Zandt ("Ain't Leavin' Your Love") and John Prine ("Paradise"). Surprises come from a couple of classic-rock ringers: Stealer's Wheel's "Stuck in the Middle with You" and a fiddle-driven rendition of Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home." For all their down-home appeal, neither Green nor Morrow is more than serviceable as an interpretive singer, but it's hard to quibble with the production by Lloyd Maines or the selection of material.

TraAklist:
1. Are You Sure Hank Does It This Way?
2. Texas on My Mind
3. It's a Great Day to Be Alive
4. Paradise
5. I'd Have to Be Crazy
6. Ain't Leavin' Your Love
7. Stuck in the Middle With You
8. Live Forever

Urban Cowboy OST 1980

Image hosted by servimg.com

It includes Joe Walsh, Bob Seger, Boz Scaggs, and Dan Fogelberg, so it's obviously not strictly a country album. But the soundtrack is important because it symbolizes the country trend that grew, then faded, in the early '80s (a case can be made that J.R. Ewing had a lot more influence on the fad than the film Urban Cowboy). Most of the country tracks here lean toward MOR.

TraAklist:
01. Hello Texas - Jimmy Buffett
02. All Night Long - Joe Walsh
03. Times Like These - Dan Fogelberg
04. Nine Tonight - Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
05. Stand by Me - Mickey Gilley
06. Cherokee Fiddle - Johnny Lee
07. Could I Have This Dance - Anne Murray
08. Lyin' Eyes - The Eagles

Johnny Lee - Lookin' for Love 1980

Image hosted by servimg.com

Johnny Lee (born July 3, 1946, in Texas City, Texas) is an American country music singer. His 1980 single, "Lookin' for Love" not only spent three weeks at the top of the Billboard country singles chart in the second half of 1980 but also went to the Top 5 on the Pop charts, and Top 10 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary survey. He racked up a series of country hits in the early and mid-80s.

Image hosted by servimg.com

It's easy to see why Nashville tastemakers like Ralph Emery were unimpressed with Johnny Lee on first listen -- his relaxed style doesn't exactly ooze personality. But the MOR country-pop of "Lookin' for Love" is so appealing that one suspects it could have been a hit even without the publicity from Urban Cowboy. The 1980 album containing that hit, Lookin' for Love, also includes the wistful chart-topping follow-up, "One in a Million," and the Top Three "Pickin' Up Strangers." Most of the album tracks sound quite a bit like the hits but with varying degrees of memorability (Lee's own "Anni" is the best of the bunch), but the two slick rockers, "Down and Dirty" and "Too Damned Old," are awful. The presence of three of Lee's biggest hits will attract listeners to Lookin' for Love, but there are at least a couple of comparable album cuts that will sustain interest beyond the hits..

TraAklist:
01. Lookin' for Love
02. Pickin' Up Strangers
03. Dreams Die Hard
04. Down and Dirty
05. Fool for Love
06. One in a Million
07. Anni
08. Do You Love as Good as You Look
09. Too Damned Old
10. Prisoner of Hope

Steve Tenpenny Band - Live From Texas 2006

Image hosted by servimg.com

I offered to you when Tenpenny released his 2004 album that it was but a precursor to the great things to come. The prophecy is fulfilled as the Steve Tenpenny Band releases a live album full of the very things that were predicted. Tenpenny authors all fifteen cuts but for a two-song tribute to Billy Joe Shaver and a Paul Simon cover. The Simon cover, by the way, is one of the best renditions of “Mrs. Robinson” you’ll ever hear. Tenpenny invites guest vocalist Kina Lankford on two tunes. Throughout the album, Tenpenny lets the band cut loose on a wide open road trip through well-written, masterfully performed tracks. Well-captured, this is one of the best live albums I’ve heard in some time. Remember this disc at award time. It wouldn’t be the first live album to be nominated for Album of the Year. Truly a Texas rock album, there’s enough country influence to make it feel down home. You can’t go wrong on this one.

Previous notes:
Today's popular Texas sound is a blend of traditional instrumentations and innovative lyrics. Nobody is better at it then Steve Tenpenny.

Tenpenny's voice is radio ready and dancehall friendly as he delivers flawlessly on all twelve cuts. His rock influence is evident on "Train To Nowhere" and you will enjoy Tenpenny's softer side as well. Nicely produced, the CD is but a precursor to the great things to come from this Dallas-area native.

William Elliott Whitmore - Field Songs 2011

Image hosted by servimg.com

William Elliott Whitmore - Field Songs 2011On his 2011 album Field Songs, Iowa troubadour William Elliott Whitmore documents a vanishing American landscape with all the heartfelt soul and quiet fury one could hope for. "Heartland firebrand blows fuse, fights for truth" heralded Spin Magazine when describing Whitmore, who utilizes a powerful singing voice beyond his years and a stark dramatic sound rooted in bluegrass, blues and folk protest music. These songs vividly evoke a life of struggle, humble resilience and family bond inspired by life on his family s farm along the Mississippi River. Whitmore has made a name for himself both within the punk movement, where his populism and sincerity resonate with alienated urban kids, and the roots community, where writers like Andy Downing in the Chicago Tribune have placed him within the "new pastoralism" of Bon Iver and the Fleet Foxes.

Con Hunley - LIfe 1982

Image hosted by servimg.com

Conard Logan "Con" Hunley (born April 9, 1945) is a country music singer.

Hunley was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. After graduating from Central High School in Knoxville, Hunley began playing with local bands, maturing musically and gaining his first fans. Hunley joined the Air Force in 1965 and spent most of his service on a military base in Illinois, teaching aircraft mechanics. He played music in area clubs whenever possible.

After his tour of duty was finished Hunley returned to Knoxville and began performing weekly at a local nightclub (a dive called, "The Corner Lounge"), where he met businessman Sam Kirkpatrick, who formed the independent label Prairie Dust Records to showcase Hunley's talents. After some minor success on the country music charts, Hunley caught the attention of Warner Bros. Records, who signed him in 1978. Hunley recorded five albums with Warner Bros., released several singles on MCA Records and Capitol Records, and achieved more than 20 charted hits, including “Weekend Friend,” “No Relief In Sight,” and “Oh Girl”. He toured throughout the U.S., playing large venues around the country with other musical acts, including Alabama, the Oak Ridge Boys, Larry Gatlin, George Jones and Tammy Wynette.[citation needed]

Though he continued to perform in a variety of venues, including a 1996 performance at the White House and at the World Heavyweight Championship fight in South Africa[citation needed], Hunley recorded no new music for over a decade after his last release for Capitol Records. Hunley’s long recording hiatus ended after signing with IMMI Records in 2004. He teamed again with Grammy-winning producer Norro Wilson, the architect of several of his early Warner Brothers hits, and added his first new recorded product in twenty years, Sweet Memories, to his catalog. The album was selected by CMT.com as one of the top 10 albums of 2004.[citation needed]

In early 2006, IMMI Records released Shoot From The Heart, another collaboration by Hunley and Norro Wilson. Hunley co-wrote two of the songs with songwriters Kim Williams and Larry Shell.

Hunley participates in celebrity golf tournaments around the country, and hosts one of his own each year in his hometown of Knoxville, TN, which has raised over a million dollars for charities benefiting underprivileged children.

Murray McLauchlan - Greatest Hits 1999

Image hosted by servimg.com

Murray (Edward) McLauchlan. Singer, songwriter, guitarist, pianist, broadcaster, actor, b Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, 30 Jun 1948. Brought to Canada at five, McLauchlan was taught to play folk guitar by Jim McCarthy and began his career in Toronto's Yorkville coffeehouses at 17, making his first major appearance at the Mariposa Folk Festival in 1966. He also studied art, under Doris McCarthy, but chose to concentrate on music. His early "Child's Song" and "Old Man's Song" were recorded by the US singer Tom Rush. McLauchlan continued to work in Ontario and Quebec coffeehouses and briefly 1970-1 in New York, until the success of his albums and the popularity of his "Farmer's Song" resulted in 1973 in the first of regular concert tours across Canada and in appearances in the USA with Neil Young and, beginning in 1974, on his own. With Bruce Cockburn he toured Japan in 1977. For the most part, however, McLauchlan has conducted his career in Canada, giving some 150 concerts a year through the 1980s, singing at folk festivals (eg, at Winnipeg in 1982, 1984, 1988, and 1990), and making a point of performing in small communities as well as the larger cities. He also has appeared in many benefit concerts and telethons.

Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys - 1971-1973 (4 CD Box Set) (1995)

Image hosted by servimg.com

This four-CD set is a collection of the entire output of Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys during an astonishing three-year period in the early '70s. The albums collected here include the first appearance of Stanley's signature a cappella bluegrass-gospel, and feature the outstanding lead singing of the late Roy Lee Centers.

The strong incarnation of the Clinch Mountain Boys features Curley Ray Cline on fiddle, Jack Cooke on bass, and Ricky Lee on lead guitar. Teenage Stanley disciples and future country stars Keith Whitley and Ricky Skaggs make their first recorded appearances here also, and Country Gentleman John Duffey stops by to max out the needles on the Stanley Brothers classic The Lonesome River. The band runs through straight bluegrass, gospel, old-time banjo songs, fiddle tunes, and Stanley Brothers classics, all with great confidence and style. Songs are pulled from multiple and diverse sources, including the Carter Family, old country, Bill Monroe, and even a beautiful Jesse Winchester son, "Brand New Tennessee Waltz." This set is for purists more than bluegrass neophytes, but no fan of Ralph Stanley or the Stanley Brothers should be without it. These albums broke new stylistic ground at a time when there was some concern whether Ralph Stanley could continue in the wake of Carter Stanley's death.

Delbert McClinton

Delbert McClinton - Keeper of the Flame 1979

Image hosted by servimg.com

Keeper of the Flame was the follow-up to Second Wind and was to prove once again to be the last record Delbert McClinton would record for a label that was going out of business; in this case it would be Capricorn. The sound of the album is quite different in that it was cut in Los Angeles rather than in Macon. Also, there are no Muscle Shoals players on the date. McClinton's road band was augmented by bassist Willie Weeks, pianist John Jarvis, and Hammond B-3 king Old Joe Walk; Bob Harwell was the entire horn section, playing all four saxophones with John Hug; and Billy Sanders played guitars (they were with Johnny Sandlin on Second Wind as well). Sandlin was still in the producer's chair and seemed to understand intrinsically all of the seeming contradictions in McClinton's sound — he exploited them to the maximum. The album is a laid-back mix of killer soul, white-hot R&B, and country funk; there's little rock & roll on this set, perhaps because Jarvis' style was already so rooted in the barroom barrelhouse style of pianists there was no room for another pursuit. In terms of material there was no shortage of great songs. Randall Bramblett's "Plain Old Makin' Love" is restless country-soul; with its Memphis-styled horn lines grafted onto the refrain, one could hear Otis Redding singing the sh*t out of this tune. As it stands, McClinton makes it his own. In addition there are two Don Covay covers, both "Have Mercy" and "See Saw," as well as a Doc Pomus tune ("A Mess of Blues") and Chuck Berry's "I'm Talking About You." Glen Clark's "I Don't Want to Hear It Anymore" from the old Delbert and Glen days resurfaces here completely reworked and funked up to the max. The album's highlight, however, is the oft covered yet never equaled McClinton tune "Two More Bottles of Wine" with a trio of backing vocalists singing gospel. Rather than the anthem Emmylou Harris made of it; here it is a hymn of resignation and acceptance that, come what may, right now is all you've got to make the most of it. McClinton's harp solo adds to the street-cred nature of the tune. This is a soulful shoulder shrug that could have closed the album but instead precludes "See Saw." No matter. Like its predecessor, there isn't a weak link in this bunch, and despite the fact that the album went nowhere, it endures as a prime example of McClinton's genius as a singer, writer, and performer.

Paul Gross and David Keeley - Two Houses (1999)

Image hosted by servimg.com

Paul Gross is best known in Canadian cinema than music. This is an actor ("due south", "Guys with brooms," "H2O"), director ("The boys with brooms"), screenwriter ("H2O"), producer - and a bit of a musician.
Music and playing guitar with Paul was fond of children, and played as a teenager, and becoming an actor, he began to write music for theater productions and later - his films ("Men with brooms," "Strictly on the South"). In 1980 he had his own band in Toronto, which was also played by his friend, also an actor and composer David Kiley. In 1994, Paul starred in the film «XXX's & OOO's» in Nashville, where he played a rock musician. Maybe this role and prompted him to make a hobby out of making a little songwriting something more serious, a musician, not only in the movies. It was then that Paul Nashville became a fan of country style, which he called "the last bastion of melodies", and infected with this music, David. Work on the first album was paralleled with the shooting in "due south" and then in 1997 «Two Houses» was published. When Paul was asked what this type of music, he jokingly replied: "country, rock, folk, hip-hop, swing, classical, jazz." In a more serious condition called Paul his style of "country rock". Paul describes his songs as "fragments of a person's life - love, disappointment, disillusionment."
Besides Canada, the album sold in South Africa and the UK. Paul Gross and David Keeley gave concerts in Africa in 1998 and in Toronto in 2001. Musicians are very easy to relate to how to sell their CDs, "Our music is very much a hobby, well, or at least personal. If a song becomes a hit, it will be great, but we do not have special tactical plan for this. "
In 2001 they released their second album - «Give The Dog A Bone». In interviews, Paul and David were told that they write songs together, and the question of who sing, has a simple solution - whose voice is better suited. The second album, David Keeley often happy fan of his voice, while the first solo in the main floor.

Steve Brown and the Bailers - Things Change 2011

Image hosted by servimg.com

FAIRBANKS - The title of Steve Brown and The Bailers' new album, "Things Change," proves very apt.

In its four-and-half-year existence, the band has continually redefined its sound, not by drastic leaps and bounds but in gradual increments.

And those changes are clearly evident on the new album, being released tonight at Ivory Jack's.Recorded at Fairbanks' 10th Planet Studios, the band on "Things Change" sounds tight, locked in step and yet comfortable and loose enough to generate a strong emotional content fitting a live performance."That's something I was hoping would show up," Brown said during a recent phone interview.

"It's grown, and it's been one of those things where every time we have a chance to play together it just keeps getting better.""Things Change" also shows how much a ban..

The Shooters and Bandana 2011

Image hosted by servimg.com

The Shooters was a five-piece country music band composed of Walt Aldridge (guitar, lead vocals) Gary Baker (bass guitar), Barry Billings (guitar), Chalmers Davis (keyboards), and Michael Dillon (drums). They charted several times on the Billboard country charts between 1986 and 1989.[1] They also recorded two albums for Epic Records, "The Shooters" and Solid As a Rock.

After disbanding, Aldridge found work as a songwriter, session musician and record producer, while Baker joined songwriting partner Frank J. Myers to write John Michael Montgomery's 1994 hit single "I Swear",[1] which was later covered by All-4-One as well. Baker and Myers also recorded one album as the duo Baker & Myers.

Bandana was an American country music band composed of Lonnie Wilson (lead vocals), Jerry Fox (bass guitar), Tim Menzies (guitar), Joe Van Dyke (keyboards), and Jerry Ray Johnston (drums). After Menzies, Johnston and Van Dyke left, they were replaced with Michael Black and Billy Kemp on guitars, and Bob Mummert on drums. Between 1982 and 1986, they were signed to Warner Bros. Records, on which they charted ten singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles (now Hot Country Songs) charts, including the #17 "The Killin' Kind" and #18 "Outside Lookin' In", the band's highest-charting hits. After disbanding, Menzies assumed the name Tim Mensy and began a solo career and later wrote hit singles for other artists, while Wilson found work as a session drummer.

Here is the next to last charted single from The Shooters. "If I Ever Go Crazy" reached #17 on the Billboard Country chart in 1989 (Epic 68587).

The Shooters - I Taught Her Everything She Knows About Love (ACC)

Everyone LOVES American Country Countdown! The Shooters were at #33 the week of March 19, 1988, with their single "I Taught Her Everything She Knows About Love." Eventually they reached a high of #31. (Epic 07684)

The Shooters - Borderline

By request, here is "Borderline" by The Shooters. This single reached #13 on the Billboard Country chart in early 1989 (Epic 08082).

Bandana - Outside Lookin' In

Here is a requested Bandana song. "Outside Lookin' In" was the first release from their self-titled album. It reached #18 on the Billboard Country chart in 1983 (Warner 29524) and was the highest charting single from this album.

Donna Ulisse - An Easy Climb 2011

Image hosted by servimg.com

"An Easy Climb" marks the fourth venture into the studio by Donna Ulisse and her producer guitarist Keith Sewell and they have once again proven that they are a team with chemistry knowing how to deliver a top notch bluegrass/acoustic project. With Ulisse supplying the remarkable original material that sets her apart from so many other artists in her genre and powerful yet sensitive vocals and Sewell leading a stellar group of musicians with the perfect arrangements for Ulisse's compositions, it makes a truly winning combination. Once again, Ulisse treats us to songs that are born of many of her family and personal relationships; and like a great painter would observe life around them and put it on canvas, she does the same by putting what she observes into the songs she writes and sings. With "Hand Me Down Home" she sings about the land in the Clinch Mountains of Virginia where her husband, Rick Stanley and his family hail from. The song references how the family homestead became more like a family heirloom after the passing of her father-in-law a few years ago. "Banks of Roane River" is a tender ballad about her own great-grandmother who lived a hard life working on a farm and raising fourteen children. "Where The Cold Wind Blows" was written after learning her niece's young husband was being deployed to Afghanistan and thinking about all the soldiers who go and never return. There are some romping fun tracks also like the opening song "Let It Rain" that is a real barn-barner it goes so fast! Once again Ulisse proves herself in the bluegrass genre and one can see why she is becoming a favorite on the festival circuit.

Joe Sun - Old Flames (Can't Hold A Candle To You) 1978

Image hosted by servimg.com

"Old Flames (Can't Hold A Candle To You)" is Joe Sun's debut album from 1978. And you really can't go wrong with any Joe Sun album, so do not hesitate and do grab this. It's some of the finest Outlaw Country you can lay your hands on. Sterling vocals, peachy songs and some fine picking. Of historical interest: mr. Sun does a cool version of "Long Black Veil", which some might know well from Johnny Cash. On this version, it's preceded with a narration by Danny Dill & Marijohn Wilkin. These two wrote the song and have a nice story to tell on how it became the song it turned out to be.

TraAklist:
01 - Old Flames (Can't Hold A Candle To You).
02 - Blue Ribbon Blues.
03 - I Came On Business For The King.
04 - Born Too Late.
05 - Ozark Mountain Lullaby.

07 - High And Dry.
08 - This Body That I Call My Home
09 - That Evil Child.
10 - Narration_ Danny Dill & Marijohn Wilkin.
11 - Long Black Veil.
